Peter's mother gives him new brand mittens. When Peter goes outside into the woods, he loses one of the mittens. Peter doesn't notice the lost mitten but several animals do. They think they've found the perfect home until something unexpected happens!
 This is a great story to help children with narrative skills. Narrative skills—the ability to describe things and tell stories—is an important early literacy skill. One way to help kids practice their narrative skills is to retell stories. After listening to this story, let your child retell it using his or her stuffed animals or visit Jan Brett's website and print out her Mitten coloring sheets. After coloring and cutting out the animals and the mitten, your child will have the perfect props needed to retell the story over and over again!
