Learn how to develop a career plan from professional career advisors Lori Thomas and Jeff Robek. In part one, find out about the overall process of career development.

According to professional Career Facilitator Lori Thomas:
"Trying to determine what our career path is going to be is one of the toughest decisions that we're faced with. There's a lot on the line when you're thinking about what you want to be when you grow up. There are so many opportunities . . . and . . . so many outcomes . . . that we want to be sure that we do this in a planful way."
In this program cosponsored by The Ohio State University Career Exploration Office, Thomas and her colleague Career Advisor Jeff Robek discuss career development. In their presentation, Thomas and Robek outline seven steps for completing a career transition, including:
  1. Awareness of Need for Decision
  2. Evaluate Self
  3. Identify Alternative Careers
  4. Research Alternative Careers
  5. Make Tentative Choice
  6. Address Barriers
  7. Implement Your Plan
Using several handouts (available here for download), Thomas and Robek walk you through these steps to help you find a match between yourself and the world of work and to show you the actions you can take to create your life's work.
